Let's take a quick look under the hood of
Notify.com
Application Programming Interfaces
All Notify.com APIs utilize the standard of Internet communication, known as the HTTP POST.

This means that access to the Notify.com APIs is available from any Operating System, using any programming or scripting language.

In addition, the HTTP POST supports SSL encryption, to ensure all communication with Notify.com is secure.
The Notify.com APIs include:
-
Alert API: sending messages directly to selected Users, Groups or Subscriptions
-
Alarm API: transmission of alarm data from any system, application or device
-
Heartbeat API: passive monitoring of systems and applications
Alarm input without an API
In some situations, access to an API is not available.
Many monitoring applications run on embedded systems, that provide a single form of alarm output.

Notify.com Alarm Management can process incoming data from:
-
SMTP Email
-
SMS text messages
-
Serial (RS-232) communication lines
-
Text files, including log files for automated analysis
-
SQL queries
-
you name it...we can interface to anything
Notification Methods
Notify.com transmits critical messages to any combination of Users, Groups or Subscriptions.

The method(s) used to deliver messages can either be defined by the Notify.com Administrator, or the Notify.com end User, based on the Notify.com system configuration.

Notification methods include:
-
SMTP email
-
Cloud-based SMS text message
-
SMS text message using the On-Premise Notify.com SMS Gateway
-
Voice telephone call
-
PUSH notification to the smartphone, tablet or desktop browser
Notify.com Alarms
At the center of Notify.com Alarm Management is the Alarm.

Notify.com Alarms match a Blueprint, with an Escalation, to make certain the correct people are alerted to critical situations in the enterprise.
-
Blueprints define the structure of data coming from applications, systems or devices. In this example, a Blueprint defines the arguments sent from the OpenNMS network management application.
-
Escalations define the combination of Users, Groups or Subscriptions that will be notified—and the time intervals between notifications—until the Alarm has been responded to.

In this example, the VMware Major Event Alarm will fire when the Source field contains the string VMWareCimMonitor, AND the Severity field contains the string Major.
System Dashboard
The Notify.com System Dashboard provides administrators with a real-time view of all current Notify.com activity.

The Dashboard displays up to the second status of:

-
Alarms
-
Escalations
-
Passive monitoring of systems and applications using Notify.com Heartbeats
-
Message transmission, and acknowledgement
-
Notifications Sent for email, SMS, Voice and PUSH
-
Notifications Pending for email, SMS, Voice and PUSH
System Reporting
Notify.com System Reporting provides administrators with a graphic view, of all system use, over any selected time period.

System Reporting is not a development tool, that requires administrators to know the internal database structure. Rather, it is ready to use Out of the Box, on the first day of implementation.

Web Messaging Console
The Web Messaging Console compliments the Alarm Management capabilities of Notify.com. It allows your Notify.com configuration to perform dual-duty.

Perfect for the Helpdesk, or Emergency Notification applications, the Web Messaging Console provides:

-
Easy lookup for any combination of Users, Groups and Subscriptions.
-
Template messages, to cut down on keyboard input for messages sent on a regular basis
-
Themes, to provide publishers with the ability to customize the user interface
Mobile App
The Notify.com Mobile App provides a daily, monthly and annual synopsis of all Notify.com activity.

Designed with a technology that automatically adapts to the device being used, the Mobile App is the perfect tool when you want a quick glance at Notify.com status, from your smartphone, tablet or desktop browser.
SMS Gateway
The Notify.com SMS Gateway is an optional component, available to those Notify.com customers running On-Premise.

The SMS Gateway is implemented for two primary reasons:

-
Since the SMS Gateway sends text messages directly over the cellular network, it can transmit critical alerts, even when Internet connectivity is interrupted. The SMS Gateway is implemented in high availability environments.
-
The SMS Gateway transmits text messages without a per message charge. For a standard monthly fee—paid to your telecom provider—unlimited text messaging is provided.
